The United Nations would have you believe that God is 'anti-gun'. They
quote from Isaiah 2.4 in
the Bible "...and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and
their spears into
pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither
shall they learn war any
more." ; which is true, during the 1000 year period in the future when
Jesus Christ reigns
(bodily) on the earth.
They stay away from Joel 3.9,10 "Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles;
Prepare war, wake up the
mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up: Beat
your plowshares into swords,
and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong."
This passage is also true (no contradiction), but it speaks of a
different time period, the
period just prior to the 1000 year reign of Christ, known as the Great
Tribulation, which ends
with "the battle of that great day of God Almighty" (Revelation 16.14)
at "a place called in
the Hebrew tongue Armageddon" (v.16). This battle is described in
Revelation 19.11-21.
The Bible teaches that there will be no peace on the earth till the
Prince of Peace (Jesus
Christ) returns to put down all unrighteousness. (Isaiah 9.6 with
Revelation 19.11-16)
Didn't the Lord Jesus Christ (being God) know what was going to happen
after his crucifixion
and resurrection?
Yes, and he warned his disciples:
- John 15.20 "...The servant is not greater than his lord. If they
have persecuted
me, they will also persecute you..."
- John 16.33 "...In the world ye shall have tribulation..."
Did the Lord Jesus Christ teach anything about defending one's self or
property?
Again the answer is yes!
- Mark 3.27 "No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil
his goods, except
he first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house."
- Luke 11.21 "When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his
goods are in peace."
- Luke 22.36 Here (just prior to the crucifixion) the Lord Jesus
Christ told his
disciples "he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy
one." "And they
said, Lord, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is
enough."(v.38)
If the Lord considers the use of force to be right in some situations,
then we shouldn't
consider it immoral or wrong in all cases!
Notice in Luke 22.49-51 that when the disciples realized that their Lord
was being taken,
they tried to defend him. He would not allow them to. Why not?
In John 18.10,11 (a parallel passage) the Lord said to Peter, "Put up
thy sword into the
sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?
What cup?
The cup was to die on the cross for my sins; and yours, too. If you
believe this you will be
saved from hell.
- Luke 24.26,46 "Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and
to enter into
his glory?...thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the
dead the third day."
- "...these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the
Christ, the Son of
God; and that believing ye might have life through his name."(John
20.31)
Although God is not anti-gun, and a gun may save your life some day, it
can't save your soul
for eternity! Only your belief in Jesus Christ and his death for your
sins can save your soul
from hell!
