The First Amendment vs. The Second Amendment
The Bible tells us in I Peter 2.13 "Submit yourselves to every
ordinance of man for the Lord's sake."
Let's look briefly at the "ordinance(s) of man" regarding 'freedom'
and 'gun control' in the United States of America.
Amendment 1
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech,
or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to
petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
Amendment 2
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State,
the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Why do we have a United States of America, with its constitution?
Because the Pilgrims fled England in search of religious freedom.
The framers of the constitution knew this when they included the Bill
of Rights in the document.
We have the Second Amendment so that we can enforce the First Amendment.
To those who are only concerned about 'bearing arms': if we don't have the
right to worship as we wish and speak as we wish and assemble as we wish,
why worry about bearing arms?
To those who are only concerned about 'freedom to worship, speak and assemble'
as we wish: if we don't have the right to bear arms, we can't enforce those
First Amendment rights.
So we see that these two amendments go hand in hand.
There are some who say; 'We live in different times today: we don't need the
public armed in our day'.
They are blind as to what's happening around them. We live in a violent society.
or
They don't think our government is capable of taking away our right's; yet it's
happening all around us.
- People are not allowed to assemble, without a permit.
- People are harassed because of what they believe, as regarding God.
- Street-preachers are silenced and/or arrested.
- The government is making law after law restricting the right to keep and bear
arms.
So you see, times are not 'different today'. As a matter of fact, the government
is doing the very things that the Bill of Rights was designed to prevent.
The Bible says "... in the last days perilous times shall come." (II Tim 3.1)
When someone mentions the Bible or "the last days", do you scoff?
It says in II Peter 3.3,4 "...there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking
after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since
the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of
the creation."
Is this you? Do you say, 'They've been saying that for years and it still hasn't
happened.'? Verse 9 in II Peter 3 tells us "The Lord is not slack concerning his
promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing
that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."
So you see, those who have not accepted Jesus Christ as their Saviour will have to
endure these last days and, more than ever, will need all the guns they can get.
--- there is an alternative ---
"For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus
Christ." (I Thessalonians 5.9)
Those who have accepted Christ as their Saviour will be removed bodily from this
earth, to be with the Lord, before this time of wrath takes place.
Although guns may be able to save our life here on the earth, they can do nothing
for our soul.
Speaking of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Bible says "Neither is there salvation in
any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we
must be saved." (Acts 4.12)
"For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Matthew 16.26)
Conclusion:
The liberal media says
'people are good - guns are bad'.
The Bible says
"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked..." (Jeremiah 17.9)
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3.23)
God puts the blame where it should be, on the criminal; not on the tool used by
the criminal.
There will be no peace till the "Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9.6) returns, at the end
of the tribulation. (Revelation 19.11-16)
The framers of the constitution used the Bible as their guide; but believing in the
constitution or this country or any other thing on this earth will not save your soul
from the eternal hell that awaits you if you have not accepted Christ's sacrifice on
the cross as payment for your sins. The Lord Jesus himself said "... I am the way,
the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14.6)
